Which companies still have Renter/Home Owner Insurance in Florida?
Question by Cynthia : Which companies still have Renter/Home Owner Insurance in Florida?
We have State Farm, but they no longer offer this coverage in the state of Florida.
We currently rent, but are hoping to buy a home in the next year so we need an insurance company that has both – preferably also with Auto Insurance!
All the companies I’ve gotten quotes from are either godly expensive or don’t offer renter insurance anymore either!!
If you’re trying to help, please list actual companies, not random websites. I’m not stupid enough to trust random websites posted on here.. Sorry… but thank you in advance for any REAL help!
catz, I don’t appreciate your tone. Just because I ask a question does not make me stupid. Yes, I realize insurance in Florida is going to be high, but not 3 – 5 times higher than what I’m paying right now (IN FLORIDA) which is 0 annually for renters insurance (20k/100k no deductible). As far as home owners insurance goes, I understand it will be MUCH higher than renters for obvious reasons.
I was asking for local companies since I have only tried major companies like Geico, Progressive, All State, Farmers, Etc. I will check out Citizens, thank you for that tiny bit of helpful information hidden in your other unnecessary paragraphs pointing out my assumed and nonexistent ignorance.

OK, you realize that Florida has the highest homeowners rates in the whole USA? And that the AVERAGE homeowners premium, for a $150,000 house, is around $5,000 a year – not counting flood.
You need a local agent. There are a bunch of new insurance companies springing up – but I wouldn’t trust that they can pay the claims, if there should be a major hurricane hit.
The #1 homeowner writer in FL, is Citizens – the state run insurance company. That’s most likely who you’re going to end up with.
It’s not going to be cheap. It’s FLORIDA. AND, food for thought, I just read in a trade mag that the rates are going up 10% this year, and 10% next year. The insurance companies said they needed 50% to have enough to pay for claims, but the insurance commissioner only approved 10%.
That’s why there aren’t many – if any – insurance companies in FL – they aren’t allowed to charge enough for insurance, to break even on claims.
and . . . don’t bother clicking on ANY links. They’ll be trying to harvest your personal information. What you need, is a local insurance agent – or three. You can find some at http://www.iiaa.org.
homeinsurance.awardspace.us – you can try this company. I personally have their home insurance cause it is cheapest in our area.
